Dietary Assistant II

Overview

Trustbridge Hospice in West Palm Beach, a division of Empath Health is seeking a detail-oriented Full-Time Dietary Assistant IIto help promote and follow all dietary policies and procedures in the Care Centers to ensure safe food practices. This role plays a vital part in ensuring our programs and services meet regulatory dietary requirements, and reflect best practices that benefit our patients, families, and community.

What You’ll Do

  • Prepare, assemble, and distribute meals and snacks in accordance with dietary guidelines and individual meal plans.

  • Ensure proper portioning and presentation of food items, including therapeutic and texture-modified diets.

  • Interpret and follow diet orders, menu cards, and nutrition plans accurately.

  • Assist with advanced food preparation under the guidance of cooks or dietitians.

  • Monitor and ensure proper food handling, sanitation, and infection control practices.

  • Maintain cleanliness and organization of kitchen, storage, and food service areas.

  • Accurately record and maintain food temperatures, refrigerator logs, and cleaning schedules.

  • Receive and store food deliveries, ensuring proper rotation (FIFO) and inventory control.

  • Train or mentor new Dietary Assistants or Dietary Assistant I staff as directed.

  • Communicate effectively with nursing staff, patients/residents, and families regarding dietary needs or meal concerns.

  • Report any special dietary issues, complaints, or safety concerns to supervisors.

  • May assist with updating menu boards, diet spreadsheets, or patient/resident diet lists.

Position Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED preferred.

  • Previous experience in food service or healthcare settings preferred.

  • Ability to read, write, and follow oral and written instructions in English.

  • Working knowledge of therapeutic diets (e.g., cardiac, diabetic, renal, mechanical soft, pureed).

  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills.

  • Must be able to stand for long periods and lift up to 25–50 pounds.

  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and as part of a team.

  • Flexibility to work various shifts, including weekends and holidays, as needed.
