Empath Health is seeking to hire the President of the Suncoast Hospice Foundation.

  • Oversee, maintain and manage a personal portfolio of Suncoast Hospice Foundation donors and prospects, including individuals and foundations, using moves management practices.
  • Consistently engage and communicate with portfolio constituents through face-to-face relationship-building meetings and other personal engagement opportunities.
  • Develop and implement clear strategies and timelines for cultivation, solicitation, and stewardship for each major donor and prospect. Ensure strategies are compatible and maximize opportunities with other existing campaigns and appeals.
  • Execute comprehensive Loyal Donor campaign resulting in engagement opportunities and increased giving by loyal donors.
  • Conceive, plan, and execute a comprehensive planned giving program resulting in new estates and trusts each year.
  • Oversee a wide variety of events and campaigns for diverse affiliates including hospice, grief services, palliative care, adult day care, and HIV AIDS.
  • Conceive, plan, and implement successful annual campaign components including the Memorial Retention program, Primary Caregiver program, Angels grateful family program, annual appeals, and other sustainable tracks with positive increases.
  • Execute comprehensive retention, stewardship and recognition plan for Suncoast Hospice Foundation and all affiliates for annual, major, capital, corporate, and planned giving donors.
  • Oversee and provide leadership for many complex grant proposals, including federal reimbursement grants and single audit awards.
  • Support enterprise-wide, system based individual and corporate donors and grants.
  • Engage and support the fundraising efforts of high-level volunteers, including the Board of Directors, and senior staff in securing new and renewed gifts.
  • Oversee the Suncoast Hospice Foundation Board of Trustees, preparing agendas and requests for affiliate funding.
  • Create and manage budgets for special Suncoast Hospice campaigns; track and report on progress to goal, including contacts, gifts, pledges and planned gifts.
  • Oversee all estates, annuities, and trust record administration.
  • Oversee all resale operations, leases, sales, and administration of 3 Suncoast Hospice Foundation resale stores.   
  • Work with Foundation staff and volunteers on screening and preparing profiles of current and prospective Suncoast Hospice Foundation donors; establish and refine benchmarks for department research processes.
  • Oversee large database, gift entry, donor acknowledgements, and reporting managing over 250,000+ records.
  • Oversee diverse teams of colleagues including resale, annual, events, major and planned gifts, and donor management/services.
  • Maintain timely recording of all pertinent information related to donor tracking in Foundation database.
  • Be a visible presence at Empath special events, such as receptions, major donor cultivation and public education events, and fundraisers such as the annual gala.
  • Participate in Development team, Philanthropy team, and Empath leadership meetings.
  • Represent Empath Health in the community.
  • Other duties as assigned

Position Qualifications and Requirements:

  • Education and/or Experience: 12 - 15+ years of fundraising experience; Bachelor’s degree (B.A., B.S.) from four-year college or university (Masters preferred); CFRE credential required (and CFRM preferred) or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Successful track record of securing million-dollar plus gifts and pledges
  • Proven ability to raise $10+ million annually
  • Experience managing $10+ million budget
  • Comprehensive fundraising skills managing portfolios of 35 - 50 high net worth, qualified prospects and overseeing major and planned gift portfolios of 75 – 100 qualified prospects
  • 7+ years of Board Leadership experience
  • Extensive management experience leading teams of 20+ colleagues with 5+ direct reports
  • Experience planning and leading successful multi-million-dollar capital, programmatic, and endowment campaigns
  • Superior analytical and financial acumen and knowledge of budgeting, financial reporting, forecasting, and endowments
  • Proficiency and full understanding of all planned giving instruments including annuities, trusts, and bequests including charitable tax implications and benefits
  • Experience working with volunteers and leading diverse committees and groups of people
  • Experience leading governance boards of trustees
  • Experience overseeing retail or resale store operations including leases
