Infection Preventionist - Employee Health Nurse

We are currently seeking an experienced and detail oriented Infection Preventionist/Employee Health Resource Nurse to join our team. The Infection Preventionist/Employee Health Resource Nurse is responsible for the day to day operation of the Infection Prevention and Control Program; and in collaboration with Human Resources oversee the employee health functions for the organization. The Infection Preventionist/Employee Health Resource Nurse possesses clinical expertise and utilizes critical thinking skills that focus on the needs of the patient and family, employees, volunteers, and other healthcare professionals. The Infection Preventionist/Employee Health Resource Nurse collaborates with other healthcare professionals, community agencies and is familiar with standards and regulations from the National Hospice and Palliative Care Organization, CMS, OSHA, The Joint Commission, and the State of Florida.

The Infection Preventionist/Employee Health Resource Nurse promotes a safe working environment, through pre-employment and annual health screenings, education and surveillance activities.


INFECTION PREVENTION and CONTROL FUNCTIONS:
1. Conducts ongoing surveillance activities using Centers for Disease Control criteria.
2. Applies Epidemiological principals, data collection and analysis to information.
3. Investigates all reports of health care acquired infections.
4. Analyzes surveillance data for trends and provides analysis to all interested internal departments.
5. Develops and implements Infection Prevention and Control Plan and related policies and guidelines.
6. Communicates with community agencies, including the Department of Health, when patients have a reportable/communicable disease.
7. Conducts Infection Control rounds evaluating proper use of isolation precautions, hand hygiene and environmental practices.
8. Remains current with all regulatory requirements, industry recognized standards and best practices and updates the Infection Prevention and Control program accordingly. Serves as a knowledgeable resource on infection control practices to patients, families, staff, volunteers, and physicians.
9. Consults and collaborates with all internal departments to apply industry standards and best practices in caring for the organization environment (cleaning, disinfecting, biomedical waste management, etc.)
EMPLOYEE HEALTH FUNCTIONS:
1. Collaborates with Human Resources to ensure completion of all pre-employment and annual health screenings.
2. Trends employee illnesses and analyzes for patient/employee transmission.
3. In collaboration with Human Resources, trends employee injuries for enhanced safety and process improvement.
4. Develops and implements a Bloodborne Pathogen Exposure Plan for all employees and volunteers..
5. Develops and implements a Tuberculosis and Respiratory Plan including the TB screening program based on CDC guidelines for Tuberculosis.
6. Develops and implements the annual Flu Vaccine Program for employees and volunteers.
7. Provides reports of employee health activities to all interested internal committees and departments.
FUNCTIONS OF BOTH ROLES:
1. Provides orientation and annual training on infection prevention and control practices, principals, and policies regarding bloodborne pathogens, other infectious diseases, and healthcare infection risk prevention. Assess for, plan, organize, develop and implement educational programs for all departments to increase awareness of disease processes, infection prevention, and measures to provide a safe working environment.
2. Participates in continuing education programs to promote personal growth and maintain current knowledge of practice guidelines.
3. Participate in quality/performance improvement as requested.
4. In collaboration with Human Resources, oversees the Employee Health Program including maintenance of health care associated infection investigations, employee health files, and the development of policies and guidelines as designated by State of Florida and other relevant regulatory bodies. .
5. Participate on internal committees and external advisory councils as appropriate to the role.
6. Partner with members of the Organizational Excellence Department to support the mission, vision and strategic goals of the organization.

As a Infection Preventionist/Employee Health Resource Nurse with Empath Health you must be patient/family focused, loyal, motivated and interested in serving your community.

Other requirements of this role include:

• Education and/or Experience: Bachelor’s degree (B.A.) from four-year college or university; Bachelors of Science in Nursing preferred; previous experience in Infection Control and Employee Health in a healthcare setting; 3 – 5 years preferred.
• Licensure: RN, licensed in State of Florida
• Certifications (i.e. CPR): Certified by Board of Infection Control or comparable certifying body or eligible within 2 years.
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
• Intermediate computer skills required.
