HR Specialist – Compliance and Employee Support

Responsible for assisting the Human Resources Department day-to-day operations. Performs tasks related to colleague leaves of absence and workers’ compensation.

Primary tasks, duties, and responsibilities:

1. Promotes and practices the Empath mission and core values and follows all policies and procedures of Empath.
2. Appropriately and confidentially handles high level, sensitive information as a regular part of daily operations.
3. Prepare, send, and track FMLA paperwork.
4. Administers and processes workers compensation program and serves as liaison between colleagues and carrier. Conducts processing and reporting of claims. Facilitates light duty program and return to work in a timely & professional manner using customer service skills.
5. Performs HRIS data entry, report management and personnel file maintenance.
6. Assists HR Generalists with special projects and other tasks as assigned

Educational/Professional:

1. High School diploma or GED equivalent.
2. Minimum of 2 years related HR experience; healthcare experience preferred.
3. An equivalent combination of professional experience and education may be considered as meeting the Education/Professional requirements.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Required:

1. Working knowledge of computers and keyboarding skills of 30 wpm.
2. Proficient in Microsoft office, including Word and Excel; HRMS and web-based applications
3. Ability to maintain complete confidentiality.
4. Flexibility, and multitasking capabilities.
5. Strong interpersonal skills; able to effectively communicate both verbally and in writing, with all levels within the organization.
6. Detail-oriented and excellent organization skills.
7. Effective communication and interpersonal skills; effective presentation skills.
8. Proficiency in electronic record system applications, including reports.
9. Must work successfully in a team environment and have excellent customer service skills.
10. Knowledge of fundamental spelling, grammar, and punctuation.
11. Possess a valid Florida driver’s license & current auto insurance; maintain ability to travel throughout the service area as needed.

Physical Requirements:

While performing the duties of this job, the colleague is required to sit for long periods of time. Manual dexterity and visual acuity necessary to type using a computer keyboard, visually read information off a computer monitor and paper documents. Requires ability to orally communicate information over the telephone in person and hear responses. Requires ability to lift/carry up to 25 lbs.
